ART BEFORE BUSINESS
Beethoven loved escaping the city for the countryside. In summer he’d rent a room outside Vienna so he could walk, think, and let ideas hit him in the woods.
Once he moved to Mödling with a whole wagon of furniture and manuscripts. The plan was simple: the wagon follows, Beethoven walks ahead. But the moment they left the city, nature did its thing. Themes started pouring in, so he stopped, scribbled, rearranged, stopped again—completely forgetting there was a four‑horse wagon behind him.
Hours later he finally remembered his stuff and hurried to the destination… to find his belongings dumped all over the market square. The driver had waited two hours, shrugged, unloaded everything, and headed back home—especially easy because Beethoven had paid him in advance.
Beethoven was furious, then saw how ridiculous it was, rounded up help, and got everything indoors by midnight. Art first, logistics later.
